Ani Qananyan is a clay artist, painter, mural restorer and co-founder of the Shushan Gallery in Yerevan. Inspired mainly by the nature in which we live, the artist creates peaceful compositions by skillfully combining fluctuations imitating nature, regular-irregular repetitive geometries and contrasts caused by the different textures she creates in her ceramic works, which she makes out of white clay. On the other hand, we encounter a very different landscape in Qananyan's mixed media paintings she produces by using different materials besides oil painting, such as gouache, sandpaper and sometimes gauze. These works of the artist, who claims to depict nature and her surrounding environment as she sees it, carry traces of a wide spectrum ranging from archaic painting to impressionism and modern abstract art.
