Biography
Taron Marukyan (b. 1989, Armenia) is a contemporary artist whose large-scale paintings are grounded in the language of abstract minimalism. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Marukyan explores the dynamic tension between control and spontaneity through a refined vocabulary of color, line, texture, and gesture. His compositions are often defined by bold brushwork and deliberate spatial divisions, where repetitive forms — such as linear marks, shapes, and graphic motifs like knots and crosses — unfold across expanses of negative and positive space.

Marukyan’s restrained yet expressive approach embraces a “less is more” ethos. His works invite viewers into a quiet visual dialogue, encouraging moments of reflection and perceptual shift. At times, a single black gesture on an off-white ground becomes a meditative void; at others, vibrant hues of red, blue, green, and yellow punctuate the canvas, generating rhythm and emotional resonance.

Rooted in a deep respect for the past, a mindful engagement with the present, and a sense of responsibility toward the future, Marukyan’s practice is both philosophical and formally rigorous. His canvases—charged with intention yet open to spontaneity, act as contemplative fields, resisting visual overload and instead offering space for slow looking and discovery.

Based in Armenia, Marukyan has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally, including in Italy and Germany. His evolving body of work continues to pose a lifelong artistic challenge: to create something new through the timeless principles of balance, reduction, and thoughtfulness.
