Biography
Born in Istanbul, Kirkor Sahakoglu studied at the Getronagan High School, after which he graduated from the School of National Applied Fine Arts Advertising Graphics Department. Later he received his master’s degree at Istituto Europeo Di Design in Milan. He also studied at Domus Academy and participated in workshops.
In 1985 he started at the position of art director working for some of the prestigious advertising agencies in Turkey and then became a creative director. In 1995 he established his own agency. He worked with local and international companies helping them with their branding and products being rewarded with many Crystal Apple awards for his works. He teaches at Graphic Design Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marmara University since 2000 and has been working as a freelance consultant to several companies and agencies since 2010. He also gives seminars and runs workshops at various universities and institutions including Bilgi University, Yıldız Technical University, Izmir Economy University, Faculty of Fine Arts at Dogus University, Faculty of Fine Arts at Bahcesehir University, Eskisehir Anatolian University and Turkish Advertising Foundation.
In 2013, Kirkor Sahakoğlu curated the exhibition titled “Bearing Witness to the Lost History of an Armenian Family Through the Lens of the Dildilian Brothers (1872-1923)” at Tütün Deposu (Tobacco Warehouse) in 2013. The artist who took part in various exhibitions, opened his first solo exhibition titled “ABSENT” at Tütün Deposu in 2015. His second solo show “UTOPIA” was held in 2017 in Galata Greek School halls. In 2019, the artist opened his personal exhibition titled “PASSION” at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery. In the same year, his works were exhibited in an interdisciplinary exhibition titled “Shhh.!: SILENCE” which took place in Istanbul Bilgi University Santralİstanbul.
In 2021, more than 35 of Kirkor Sahakoğlu's recent works, questioning the relation between time and space were presented under his solo exhibition titled “Timeless” in a 200-year-old derelict building, which was originally an old wine warehouse in Karaköy and scheduled to be transformed into the new exhibition space of Galeri 77 after an extensive restoration following the exhibition.
